济南中学2011年远程研修英语组简报四

                                        时间如梭,不知不觉研修时间过半,可我们依然激情澎湃。在炎炎夏日培训的过程中,我们常会想到教师的幸福生活何在?题为《开启教师职业生活的幸福之门》的文章,读后深有感触。我想,获得教师职业生活的幸福,做一位幸福的老师,这不仅是教师职业生活的本质要求,也是保障学生幸福成长的需要。师者,所以传道授业解惑也。教师,虽然普通但并不平凡的职业,正所谓:四度春风化绸缪,几番秋雨洗鸿沟。 黑发积霜织日月,粉笔无言写春秋。蚕丝吐尽春未老, 烛泪成灰愁更稠。 春播桃李三千圃, 秋来硕果满神州。 或许这正是承载着祖国未来和希望的教师们在炎炎夏日不辞劳苦学习充电的原因吧。

(3 minutes) Step One:Why must we learn to make a speech?
A show of video, pictures and real-life stories, along with a question thinking:
We need to make a speech when ________.
With a nice speech, we can ________.
(To awaken the Ss’ awareness of the reality that giving a public speech has become part of our life, even affecting our future. Thus, arouse their interest and draw their attention to the learning about how to make a speech.)
  (Teaching Material)    学会演讲真的会影响一个人的一生。就好象奥巴马在6年前只是一个平民百姓,他凭着超一流的演讲能力、说服了大部分的美国国民,成为了美国总统――当今世界上最有影响力的人!就好象陈安之老师,他只是一个穷留学生,但后来借钱上了安东尼罗宾的课程,学会了演讲后,不仅25岁白手创业,27岁成为亿万富翁,而且还成为了全华人第一名的演说家!学会演讲,实现梦想!不会演讲,步步艰难!未来的事业对人才有一个共同的要求,那就是要善于说话。“能言善辩”的口头表达能力是增强竞争能力的重要工具。香港大学在内地招生,面试要求学生进行:1分钟自我介绍、2分钟童年故事以及2分钟的即席演讲。结果,习惯了内地书面应试式的高考状元中多数被惨遭淘汰!面试的表现也成为录取与否的关键!随着高校自主招生范围的进一步扩大,当众演讲成为进入高校的敲门砖。国改进公务员的晋升要求:干部的选用必须进行公开竞聘演讲。这种情况在各省市已经成为一种趋势和潮流!而公众演讲的学习成为考公务员以及公务员提拔晋升的必修课!每年众多公司招聘高校人才,因口才问题被拒之门外的“高材生”大有人在,很多公司的领导不得不放弃这些高材生,因为善于沟通是公司团队合谐共赢的一大因素,他们不能冒险。
可见,学会演讲将让我们拥有最非凡的竞争力和影响力!

How to make a speech
What Do I Talk About?
Start by asking yourself questions:
1. Who is my audience? (age, interest, knowledge background, job etc.)
2. What do they want or need to know from me?
3. How long can or should I talk?
Decide on the theme and name your speech with a big title.
Where Do I Get Material?
Research and gather as many facts as you can on your topic. Keep a notebook handy to make a list of your ideas, findings and even the flash of ideas that come to you while walking or chatting. When you actually sit down to write, you'll have plenty of material.
How Do I Outline My Talk
Gather and organize your ideas, plan and polish, but don't write it down word by word. For now, just draft an outline with key points and ideas and then expand it later on.

1. Open with a bang.
The first and last thirty seconds of your speech have the most impact, so give them extra thought, time, and effort to hook your audience's interest and seize their attention.
2. Develop strong supporting stories.
The middle of your talk is where you expand on your key points and develop your supporting evidence. The content should be well-organized, clearly-programmed and liked to one another in a logical and supporting way. The materials should be stated step by step in the up-growing depth.
3. Close on a high note.
Your ending should be the high point of your speech. First, review and summarize the key elements and finish your talk with something inspirational that supports your theme. Second, be brief in the word but impressive and effective in the meaning.
How Do I Polish My Speech?
Perfect your draft to confirm that it is:
- Interesting and attractive
- Concise, logical, fluent and grammatically accurate
- Refined language with writing strategy
- Effective, supportive and moving
How Do I Rehearse?
1. Tape your self reading to check on timing and emphasis.
2. What to be stressed for the speaker himself while delivering the speech
a. Occasionally altering your speed, volume and tone
b. Using a dramatic pause to emphasize an important point
c. Body posture
d. Confident and enthusiastic
e. Maintaining eyes contact all around( left-center-right, front and back)

By means of group work, students brainstorm how to draft an outline and deliver a speech. One speaker from each group is to
attend CCTV English Speech Contest.

以“击鼓传花”的游戏方式来决定进行即兴演讲的学生,从题目箱里抽取任一题目,进行快速即兴的作答,一分钟为限。  
题目箱:Which country do you want to travel? Why?
             Is Internet harmful to teenagers?
             What kind of friend do you want to make?
            What subject do you like best?
            Who do you admire most?
           How do you spend your weekend?
           How shall we get along well with teachers?
           What’s your dream?
           Should cell phones be taken to school?
           What do you think about the drunk driving?
(2 minutes) Step Five: Summary, feedback and homework
Homework: 撰写一篇自命题的英语演讲稿,组内传阅交流并完善。英语早自习时间进行组内“演讲个人秀”。
       辩之有据,论之有理----英语辩论之教学案例

辩之有据,论之有理----英语辩论之教学案例
教学目标:语言知识目标:积累辩论中常用的语词汇及表达,构建辩论的基本框架
                语言技能目标:利用所学有关辩论的基础知识,参与进行合理自如的辩论
                情感态度目标:不卑不亢,有理有据的展示自我观点,形成正确的自我评价
教学过程:

第9-11分钟 系统梳理基础认识 查漏补缺,引导学生补全板书中需要补充及翻译的知识 跟着教师重复诵读板书的辩论常用关键词 让学生跟读识记,使学生重温已知辩论知识,并转化为其在英语语言中的应用,切入英语辩论这一主题   
第12-18分钟 分析辩论材料,总结补充知识点 投影第一个环节中所用材料的文本,引导学生观察总结,选出部分学生总结,投影并引导学生共同分析,加以补充,将演讲常用语以及构思系统化 观察总结英语辩论的组织思路及常用语言,以书面形式总结,积极思考分析投影内容,及时补充记录 文本重现已知视听材料,便于学生结合已经熟悉的内容总结与辩论有关的知识点,通过参与分析总结,让学生在主动参与中形象轻松的掌握知识点   
第19-40分钟 运用已学知识点展开辩论 1、将50人的班级划分成五个小组,明确要求:
(1)集思广益,选出一个辩论话题;
(2)本着自愿的原则选定正反方;
(3)准备好面向全班展示本组辩论;
(4)最终投票评出优胜小组。
2、教师在学生组织辩论的过程中提供必要的帮助,并引领学生及时纠正错误,呈现出质量较高的辩论展示。 1、积极参与活动,在组长的组织下,设想一个自己会说并且有话说的论题;
2、依据个人特点,明确正反方,组内讨论并排演;
3、到讲台前,清晰有序的呈现本组辩论,必要时可做适当板书介绍;
4、认真听、评其他小组演讲,合理评选出优胜小组 让学生在组织辩论的过程中运用已学知识,辩之有据,论之有理,并根据实际表现,投票选出“最佳辩论小组”和“最佳辩手”,让学生在实践已学知识的同时体验参加辩论的快乐,增强学习兴趣,达到学习目的   
第41-44分钟 总结
升华 以板书、投影和学生辩论中出现的精彩句子和有代表的错误用法为依托,引导学生将辩论的构思及常用语言和表达进行归纳和升华 将老师呈现的内容进行反思、归纳和升华,回顾并梳理本节课所学 以学生反思总结为主线,在实践后及时强化和巩固辩论的有关知识,升华教学目标   
第45分钟 布置作业 投影呈现Homework
以“Is keeping pets good or bad”为题,任选正反方,列出辩论时你的观点及理由 按要求完成作业,进一步巩固辩论知识及使用技能 另选一个辩论题目让学生构思,进一步巩固本节所学的辩论知识和技能

        Personally speaking i do not think practising merely in class can make the students have an aptitude  for writing or reach a very high level.  Writing is a talent instead of a capability more or less.  Perhaps what i thought is entirely wrong, but from the observation during teaching i just draw this conclusion, helplessly.   Without a great deal of reading such skills cannot be supplemented . As  a  teacher what i can do is just helping students with the test compositions . As we all know that no matter what  the writing title in MBA English  is  , the writing content always can be composed of three parts: raising problems ,analyzing problems and solving them. This is similar to the English compositions in the college entrance exam. From this view piont,  what i am doing and i am to do is to help the students to deal with the composition and gain a mastery of it. The above mentioned is just because i think " writting" is so grandiose but impractical for my teaching experience that i only submit a teaching plan on how to write  a given composition.
            Step 1 : As the first stage of preparing to write a compositionn ,  give students the essay title and pieces of scrap paper,that 
                         is to say, show the title and the full details to students
            Step 2: Generating ideas
                          using students' own ideas can make the writing more memorable and meaningful.
                         Since this is a letter of complaint, before writing let students think about a situation when they have
                             apply for a job and tell a partner.
                            students have 3 minutes to work alone, writing one idea on each piece of paper, before comparing in     
                                groups. 3 best ideas can be presented to the class by each group  .  Tell the students  the important thing is to
                                break through the barrier of ' I can't think of anything to write.'   so it doesn't matter if the ideas are not used in 
                               the pracitcal writting.
           Step 3 Focusing ideas
                      This step involves thinking about which of the many ideas generated are the most important or just relevant,  at the
                       same time help students taking a particular point of view.
                       As part of the writing process, students are asked still keep in groups and put the ideas generated in the previous
                            stage onto a 'mind map'. A  mind-map  then is drawn by the teacher on the board, used  ideas from the different
                             groups. this can help the students better express their own ideas.
                       then get  students to write individually for about 10 minutes, no matter if there is any grammar or punctuation
                               problems the students are requetsed without stopping .  If they don't know a particular word, the students can
                              write it in Chinese. It is just a writting lesson , tell the students later they could use a dictionary.  In this way some
                             of the ideas used during the 'Generating ideas' stage have the posssibility to be  further developped .
      Step 4 Focus on a model text
                 Give students the tools to express their ideas in the most appropriate way---------some language 'chunks' they can
                        use  in   their own writing. 
                in a job application letter, the functions of the paragraphs might be something like;
               * reason for writing
               * how I found out about the job
               *relevant experience, skills and abilities
               *closing paragraph asking for an interview
        Step 5 Organising ideas
                  Ask the students to draft an outline  including how many paragraphs and the main points of each paragraph even the 
                 main and supporting statements.
        Step 6 Writing
            The writing itself is asked to be done alone, or collaboratively in pairs or groups within a given time in class.



































          Step 7 Peer evaluation
                   Ask the students to be in groups and read their composition to companions  and comment on what they liked / didn't like about the piece of work, or what they found unclear, so that these comments can be incorporated into the second draft.         
             Step 8 Reviewing
                    When writing a final draft, students should be encouraged to check the details of grammar and spelling, which may 
                     have taken a back seat to ideas and organisation in the previous stages.
 the last but not the least , this teaching method is raised by Catherine Morley, British Council, Mexico in 2005, which i enjoy and sometimes used in my class.
